Heartburn after 50 can turn an ordinary dinner into an uncomfortable night. You may feel burning in the chest or throat, a sour taste, or discomfort after lying down. A short video cannot tell you the cause, but it can remind you to notice the pattern.
Start with dinner timing. If heartburn often appears at night, try finishing dinner a little earlier and staying upright for a while before bed. A smaller evening meal may also feel easier on the body than a large late meal.
Next, notice your personal triggers. Some people react to spicy food, fried food, chocolate, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, tomato-based meals, or very large portions. You do not have to remove everything at once. A simple food-and-symptom note for one week can reveal a lot.
Gentle habits may help: eat slowly, avoid lying down right after a meal, keep evening meals lighter, and drink water throughout the day instead of relying on a large amount right before bed.
Wellness note: This is general education, not medical advice. Chest pain, pressure, pain spreading to the arm or jaw, shortness of breath, sweating, vomiting blood, black stools, trouble swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or severe/worsening symptoms need medical attention.
